THE LOWER STANISLAUS

This 45 mile section of river stretches from historic Knights Ferry, CA to the San Joaquin River in California's central valley. Along the way are campgrounds, parks, and riparian habitat which has been protected in order to preserve the Stanislaus River corridor. There are enjoyable riffles as well as calm pools with rainbow trout, bass and fall run salmon. Native Americans lived along the river for hundreds of years and there is still evidence of their summer camps near Knights Ferry where grinding rocks can be seen. A trip down the Stanislaus river is an excellent experience for youth groups, families, and individuals who enjoy the outdoors.
